17th CENTURY MAP 'HartfordeShire' (Hertfordshire) by Pieter Van Der Keere
SALE 20% Between 1605 and 1610, 44 maps of the British Isles were engraved by Pieter van den Keere, a renowned Dutch engraver.
These were acquired by the publishers of John Speed's 'Theatre of the Empire of Gt. Britain', George Humble, who had them reworked with English titles to produce a miniature county atlas.
The miniature atlas was then issued at around the same time as editions of the folio atlas were issued, and were so popular that several editions were published until 1674.
This is an original copperplate engraving with later hand-colouring from c.1646.
The printed area is approx. 12.3cm by 8.3cm
